The United States is facing critical challenges in energy sufficiency, environmental pollution, and “technology drain,” and its citizenry wants solutions today and not decades from now. The high prices and eventual shortages of oil and natural gas are already starting to have cascading consequences in everyone’s life. Very soon, Americans will have to change the way they view themselves, due to the escalating political climate around the world and the global scramble for oil, which is imminent. With the closing of local landfills, major metropolitan areas like New York City have initiated programs to transport their waste significant distances for disposal. There are also other cities like Toronto, which discovered after September 11 that it could no longer rely on the City of Detroit for landfilling, as the border with the United States was closed. Soon, this could happen within the borders of the United States, as less populated areas refuse to take waste from more densely populated zones. The land application of processed sewage sludge has also increasingly become restricted, as metals and other contaminants, such as pathogens in this material, have threatened the health of the surrounding public and area aquifers. Municipal sewage treatment facilities have been plagued by the illegal dumping of residential and commercial waste grease into the water treatment system.
CWT is uniquely suited to provide solutions to many of the issues, which the American public has identified as pressing concerns. The TCP could contribute to the energy independence of the United States. It could significantly improve our balance of trade, reduce consumer energy costs and improve the competitive foundation of American industry. The political attractiveness of home-grown American renewable energy is immeasurable. From an environmental perspective, it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reduce the need for landfills and their associated hazards. CWT will continue its efforts to educate our congressional leadership, as well, to the implications to national security of having an indigenous supply of sustainable energy.
A resolute United States is a force to be reckoned with.
